With less than 80 minutes to go in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Tom Blomqvist sent his No. 31 Cadillac passed Felipe Nasr to take the lead. These two GTP drivers have been battling late in this 24-hour race. Porsche Penske and Whelen Engineering Racing are giving fans a show.

Tom Blomqvist, who will be full-time in IndyCar this year, is ready to win his third straight Rolex 24 at Daytona. He won the last two IMSA season openers at Daytona with Meyer Shank Racing.

Just watch Blomqvist zip past Nasr, splitting the GTD traffic, and forcing Nasr to lock up his brakes. Just beautiful racing from all involved.

The battle between the Whelen group and Penske has been a joy to watch for race fans. We have seen them go back and forth from pit stops to on the track itself. Tom Blomqvist is showing why he has won two back-to-back Rolex 24s at Daytona. He’s about to add a third watch to his collection if he can hold on.

As the race approaches an hour to go, there is a lot of energy building. Between the record crowd at the race this weekend and the fantastic racing that we’ve seen throughout the entire race, it’s been a great display of motorsport.

Tom Blomqvist ready for a big year

While his three starts in 2023 weren’t the greatest, Tom Blomqvist is hoping to start 2024 off with a big win at Daytona and then head into the IndyCar season. He is an excellent road course racer, endurance racer, and champion.

There is a lot that can happen in the final stretch of this Rolex 24 at Daytona. Right now, it looks like Blomqvist is well-positioned to take his third straight victory in this event. Penske will have something to say about that before it is all said and done.

Is this going to be another year with a photo finish? Despite being a 24-hour race, the Rolex 24 can come down to fractions of a second. These GTP cars are advanced, durable, and they have very capable drivers behind the wheel who can take care of them.

If you haven’t been watching, make sure you catch this last hour or so of the race. It’s going to be a great finish, and you never know what Daytona is going to throw at these drivers.
