Life is so good for Travis Kelce right now that he didn’t even mind that Aaron Rodgers tried to drag him into the vax battles.

In fact, the Kansas City tight end smiled when a reporter asked about his “Mr Pfizer” nickname Friday, the one Rodgers tagged him with three days before. Then he made a joke about it.

“I thought it was pretty good. With this ‘stache right now, I look like a Mr. Pfizer,” Travis Kelce cracked, noting that he’d had a haircut and an overall trim earlier Friday.

“Who knew I’d get into the vax wars with Aaron Rodgers. Mr Pfizer versus the Johnson and Johnson family over there, man.”

If you’re not spinning in the pop culture vortex this week, here’s some background info. Travis Kelce’s face is everywhere. And that includes the national campaign he’s doing with his mother, Donna, to promote getting a Covid vax along with a flu shot this fall all at the same time. And by the way, he’s also in some sort of relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift, who has attended his past two games.

That’s where Rodgers comes in. The Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champs, played the Jets, Rodgers’ new team, at MetLife Stadium Sunday night. Swift brought her friends Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. One outlet counted that the NBC cameras panned to Swift 17 times.

Meanwhile, Rodgers was seeing his teammates play for the first time since he tore his Achilles in the season opener. Once the game started, Rodgers watched from the owners’ suite. Woody Johnson, the heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical fortune, owns the Jets with his brother. Coincidentally, Johnson & Johnson also produced a Covid vax.

Then on Tuesday, Rodgers did his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. And of course, McAfee brought up the game. The Chiefs won, 23-20, but the game was closer than most thought it would be.

Rodgers described it as a “moral victory.”

He added: “That we hung with the champs and that our defense played well, and Pat [Mahomes] didn’t have a crazy game, and Mr. Pfizer (Travis Kelce), we kind of shut him down. He didn’t have his crazy impact game.”

Travis Kelce celebrated his 34th birthday, Thursday. Then on Friday, he met with the media to talk about a variety of subjects, including Rodgers and the vax.

And about the vax, Travis Kelce had more to say about the jab.

“I got it because of keeping my self safe and keeping my family safe and the people in this building,” Kelce said. “So yea, I stand by it 100 percent and I’m fully comfortable with him calling me Mr. Pfizer.”
