Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs spoke to the media Wednesday for the first time since suffering a torn ACL during a practice ahead of Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Diggs, who underwent surgery last week, said it was tough initially to deal with being sidelined, but is trusting in “God’s plan” to pull him through tough times.

“Everything happens for a reason. Just gotta roll with the punches. It’s all in God’s plan,” Diggs said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “Just gotta get healthy, come back stronger, faster. I’m not worried about [overcoming this injury]. It’s 2023, there’s a lot of new technology that’s gonna help me get back. I’m not worried about it.”

Diggs, 25, was off to a fast start before tearing his ACL. In two games, he came down with an interception and forced a fumble, leading the way for the Cowboys’ defense.

DaRon Bland impressing in place of Trevon Diggs

With Diggs on the shelf, second-year cornerback DaRon Bland has played at a level rivaled by very few around the league. Bland has three interceptions — all returned for touchdowns — and has allowed just six receptions and a 7.5 passer rating when targeted by opposing quarterbacks. According to Pro Football Focus, Bland’s coverage grade of 89.9 is tops in the NFL.

Diggs said he’s “truly happy” to see Bland thriving in his absence.

“It’s amazing to see what he’s capable of,” Diggs said, via the team’s website. “I’ve been watching him since he came in and he’s always been a heck of a player. I’m just excited to see him display it. He’s playing like one of the best corners right now. I’m excited for him, and truly happy for him.”

As for what he’s been up to since suffering the injury, Diggs said he’s remained focused on football, continuing to learn by watching other teams across the league.

“I just watch football all day, literally,” Diggs said. “I never got the chance to really sit down and watch other teams. I’ve been taking my time doing that and reading a couple books, and trying to find a couple new hobbies. Just taking everything day-by-day.

“I’ve learned a lot [by watching other teams]. I’m still learning. Seeing the different pieces and looking at it from an outside lens is just different. You’ve got a different view of the game.”
