Bad news came out of Titans training camp on Wednesday afternoon. According to NFL reporter Turron Davenport, second-year wide receiver and former first-round pick Treylon Burks suffered a left knee injury.

Here was that report:

“Treylon Burks just made a deep catch from Ryan Tannehill for a TD. Tumbled go the ground and got up limping. He walked off with help from the trainers who were holding his left knee.”

Moments later, Davenport tweeted that Burks was being carted off the field.

“They’re now taking Burks off the field on a cart.”

Prior to the cart coming out, Davenport said Burks laid on the ground a while as teammates and staff members gathered around.

“Treylon Burks is laying down while the trainers look at him. He has both hands on his head and Ran Carthon is talking to him. DeAndre Hopkins and Derrick Henry just came over too,” Davenport reported.

A tough scene for Burks, who was in line to potentially have a breakout year — and hopefully still can assuming he’s not hurt too bad.

Last season, Burks also dealt with injury issues and sat out some time due to a toe problem. Nonetheless, he still played in 11 games as a rookie in 2022, hauling in 33 receptions on 54 targets for 444 yards and a touchdown. Some pretty decent numbers for a first-year guy in an offense that struggled mightily at the line of scrimmage and couldn’t find consistent quarterback play.

Plus, the Titans simply didn’t have much other receiving talent, which isn’t as true this year since the team signed five-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins just recently. He may be on the other side of 30 and out of his athletic prime at this stage of his career, but D-Hop is still a top target in the league.

With Hopkins and a second-year Burks, whoever stepped in at QB this year — between Will Levis, Malik Willis and Ryan Tannehill — would have a better set of pass catching weapons than last season.

If Burks is indeed hurt, though, well, that just really puts a damper on a Tennessee offense that was hoping to feature some young playmakers, including the former Razorback star.

If Burks misses time, some backup options include: Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, who put up more than 800 combined yards the last two seasons; or perhaps Chris Moore, a journeyman NFL wideout and Cincinnati alum who finally caught on with Houston at age 28 two years ago. He put up 548 yards last season and is in the prime of his career with the chance to be a sneaky-strong addition for Tennessee on offense.
