Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa expects to sign an extension with the team this offseason, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“There’s been communication,” Tagovailoa told ESPN Friday at the Pro Bowl Games in Orlando. “I think the thing with that right now is I’m just letting the team talk to my agent and let them work that out.”

Tagovailoa, 25, is coming off his best season to date in the NFL. He paced the league with 4,624 yards to go along with a career-high 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions on 69.3% passing. Most importantly, Tagovailoa suited up and started all 17 games this season after missing four games last season with a concussion. Miami went 11-6 before falling in the AFC Wild Card Round to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Though Miami’s season ended on a whimper in minus-degree weather, Tagovailoa said he doesn’t feel any added pressure moving forward.

“I don’t feel any pressure at all,” Tagovailoa said. “Have full trust in myself. I have full trust in what I’m capable of doing for our organization. Outside of that we’re focusing on tonight and what happened. We’re going to simmer on this and see what we can do to get better from it going into next year.”

Dolphins GM publicly supports Tua Tagovailoa

Miami exercised Tagovailoa’s fifth-year option in 2023. General manager Chris Grier publicly supported Tagovailoa after the loss to Kansas City.

“We’ve had conversations,” Grier said. “Like we said, we wouldn’t talk throughout the season in terms of contract stuff, but we’ve stayed in touch with his agent and had good conversations throughout the year. We never talk about money or anything, just good conversations about where he is and the relationship with [head coach] Mike [McDaniel] and the team here and everything he’s done. So, the goal is to have him here long-term playing at a high level.

“That’s always the goal and we’ll continue to communicate with him through the offseason here. Like we’ve always said in the past, you guys know me. We don’t really talk in the media through all that stuff. So, we’ll just keep all those talks internal and with his reps.”
