Jerry Jones reveals plans to speak with LT Jason Peters about Dallas Cowboys opportunity
With the Dallas Cowboys in a pinch trying to sort out the left tackle position with the season right around the corner, team owner Jerry Jones discussed plans to bring in a league veteran on 105.3 The FAN.
According to Jones, the Cowboys are bringing in left tackle Jason Peters for a physical, after which he will meet with Jones. As of Jones’ interview, Peters was apparently already at the Star in Frisco — the Cowboys’ facility — for his physical, according to ESPN’s Jane Slater
Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News offered more context, explaining that the “brunt” of Peters’ visit was getting done on Friday.
Peters, who is 40, has played 17 NFL seasons — the bulk of those with the Philadelphia Eagles, division rivals with the Cowboys. He is a native of Queen City, Texas.
The Cowboys are in this spot after longtime franchise left tackle Tyron Smith suffered an avulsion fracture and was placed on injured reserve. There is hope that he could return for the tail end of the season, but it’s too early to have any clear idea of when he’ll be back.

The Cowboys officially placed Smith and receiver James Washington on injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday. In a corresponding move, Dallas re-signed long snapper Jake McQuaide and veteran cornerback CJ Goodwin, both of whom were released Tuesday at the 53-man roster deadline.
Waiting to place both players on IR was merely a formality, as NFL rules state that injured players must be on the active roster for at least one day before reverting to injured reserve, if they want to bring them back at any point in the regular season.
Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowler, suffered an avulsion fracture in practice last week. The Cowboys are holding out hope that he can return for the final month of the season, but nothing is guaranteed due to the severity of the injury.
Washington spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers before signing with Dallas this offseason. He suffered a fractured right foot at the beginning of August, and is expected to miss the first four games, but has a chance to return in Week 5.
