Former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm is on the move again in the NFL. After leaving Athens as just a junior, Fromm was drafted in the fifth round by the Buffalo Bills. But he never had a shot to beat out Josh Allen, so eventually he was released by Buffalo and signed on in New York, where he spent the 2021 season but was released last March.

He also spent time this fall in camp with Cleveland, but failed to stick with them either. Now, Fromm has finally found a new home in our nation’s capital, according to ESPN’s John Keim:

“Washington will be signing QB Jake Fromm to the practice squad, per source,” Keim wrote in a tweet. So onto the Commanders for the former Bulldog. Hard to imagine he climbs from practice squad to starter, no matter how bad Carson Wentz is. Because Washington has plenty of quality backup options.

Still, nice for Fromm to land on his feet. Best of luck to him on his fresh start with the Commanders. After he narrowly missed an opportunity to stay with the Giants, Fromm needed another team to take a chance on him.

New York Giants work out Jake Fromm, AJ McCarron amid QB injury dilemma

After seeing both active quarterbacks go down on Sunday, the New York Giants have brought in several familiar faces to battle for a potential roster spot and opportunity to pick up an NFL start if Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor are unable to go by Sunday. Among the most notable options at the facility, former Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm and former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron stand out.

Jake Fromm holds a familiarity with the current Giants staff, getting his first NFL shot as a backup under Brian Daboll with the Buffalo Bills in 2021. He appeared in three games, making two starts while accumulating 210 passing yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

AJ McCarron also knows Brian Daboll from his time on the Bills practice squad in 2018, the former offensive coordinator’s first NFL stint after a stop with Alabama. However, on the other hand the veteran has not appeared in an NFL game since 2020, when he saw action twice for the Houston Texans as a backup. He began the 2021 season as a backup for the Atlanta Falcons but suffered an injury which led to his release and a gig at ESPN breaking down college football.
