San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams is a man you don’t want to run into. That much was proven Sunday during a preseason contest against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Trent Williams set a block that opened up a hole for 49ers running back Raheem Mostert to break free and gain some nice yardage.

The Longview, Texas, native was the No. 4 overall pick in 2010. Trent Williams spent nine seasons in Washington before joining the 49ers last offseason.

Before joining the 49ers, Trent Williams played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners from 2006-09. In 2008, he was a part of the team that made a BCS Championship appearance, falling to Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators.

Coming off of a Super Bowl appearance in 2019, the 49ers finished just 6-10 this past season in Trent Williams’ first year. The 49ers defeated Las Vegas on Sunday, 34-10 to improve to 2-1 in the preseason. They open their regular season on the road against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 12.

In addition to Trent Williams, the 49ers have another former Sooner on their roster as well. In addition to Mostert in the backfield, San Francisco draft Oklahoma running back Trey Sermon in the third round this offseason. Can Williams make more plays like he did Sunday to allow his fellow Oklahoma alum to shine on the 49ers?

Most likely. He earned his way to an 11th NFL season by doing just that.

The quarterback situation in San Francisco is also of intrigue. Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to start in Week 1 against the Lions. However, the 49ers selected North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance in the first round. Is it possible we see the talented rookie take over at some point this season?

Injuries derailed a promising season from the 49ers this past year. If they can stay healthy in 2021, they should return to the playoffs and be a dangerous team. The NFC West is extremely tough, with Arizona, Seattle and Los Angeles all fielding strong teams as well. Hopefully Trent Williams can keep doing his things and help the 49ers to the postseason.
