When Los Angeles Rams star Jalen Ramsey dreamed of playing football in the NFL one day, he saw himself performing under the bright lights of the Super Bowl. At age 27, that dream is finally about to come true.

“I always wanted to be the best in my family, and I’ve been able to achieve a lot but I haven’t been able to achieve a Super Bowl yet,” Ramsey said. “That has always been a dream since I was a little kid. You always watch the Super Bowl, so since I started playing football, at like five years old, it has always been a dream.”

Ramsey spent his first three and a half seasons in Jacksonville as the Jaguar’s star cornerback. Despite going 3-13 his rookie season, the Jaguars would have their first 10-win season since 2007 in 2017, winning their division and falling one game short of the Super Bowl.

The Jaguars would trade Ramsey upon request after three games in 2019 to the Rams, a team that was coming off a Super Bowl berth of their own. They lost to Tom Brady and the Patriots 13-3, but Ramsey was coming into a culture that has a winning mindset similar to his own.

In his two and a half seasons with the Rams since the trade, Los Angeles has yet to end the season with a losing record. They missed out in the playoffs in 2019 with a 9-7 record, lost in the divisional round in 2020 (10-6) and now their 12-5 2021 season has brought them to the Super Bowl. It’s everything Ramsey has ever dreamed about since he put pads on for the first time as a child.

“Since I was a little kid, I started playing football when I was like, maybe four and a half, five [years old at the] latest. My older siblings, well, I had an older brother and an older cousin that loved playing football, so I wanted to play football since I was really, really young and always wanted to be really good,” Ramsey said.

Ramsey has to wait until 6:30 p.m. for his dream to become true when the Rams and Cincinnati Bengals kickoff Super Bowl 56 live from the Rams home field, SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Cal. as they look to become the second team in NFL history to win it all with home field advantage. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were the first to do so in 2021.
