After defeating the Packers 13-10 to advance to the NFC Championship game next week, Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had some choice words on the field during celebration.

During the excitement and elation on the San Francisco sideline following kick Robbie Gould’s 45-yard game-winning field goal as the clock expired in regulation against the Packers, Gould and his quarterback met on the field where Garoppolo let him know how he felt: “You’re a f**king legend man. F**k the Packers!”

Garoppolo, an Illinois-native, grew up a Bears fan. The two teams are bitter rivals, so it has to feel good to get a win under the lights and snow of Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Likely something he’s dreamed about countless times growing up.

He finished the game 11-19 with 131 yards and one interception. The 49ers lone touchdown came via special teams when Jardan Willis blocked a punt by Corey Bojorquez and Talanoa Hufanga scooped the ball up at the 6-yard-line for the score.

While this isn’t the first time Garoppolo and the 49ers have taken down the Packers in the playoffs, it’s the first time they’ve done so on Green Bay turf under his lead.

During San Francisco’s Super Bowl run in 2020, the two teams squared off in Levi’s Stadium in front of 72,000 fans that saw the 49ers stomp the Packers 37-20 behind Raheem Mostert’s 29 carries, 220 yards and four touchdowns. Garoppolo finished the game 6-8 with just 77 yards on the day.

The 49ers would go on to face Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV, where Kansas City would win it all 31-20 two weeks later.

Next week’s NFC Championship will be the 49ers 17th since the conferences split during the merger in 1970, which is the most all time. They were perviously tied with the Pittsburg Steelers at 16 prior to last nights win.

That 17th conference championship game will take place either in Tampa or Los Angeles next week depending on the outcome of the Rams vs. Buccaneers game that will take place later this afternoon.

Tampa, the home team for Sunday’s divisional matchup, are three-point favorites heading into the matchup. The game is set to kickoff at 3 p.m. ET and can be viewed live on NBC. The Divisional Round playoff slate will conclude with the Bills vs. Chiefs live from Kansas City at 6:30 p.m. on CBS.
