Former New Orleans Saints cornerback and current member of the Cincinnati Bengals Eli Apple has been the talk of the Big Easy. Apple and the Bengals are onto the team’s first AFC championship game since 1988. And instead of focusing on their next opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs, and their high-flying offense, Apple spent his time trolling the Saints and New York Giants.

During his press conference announcing his decision to step down, Sean Payton answered a few questions on some of his former players, including Apple who prompted an interesting look from Payton following mentioning his former defensive back.

“When players end up on a different roster, man we are pulling for them. I am pulling for Vonn Bell, Trey….Eli a little bit,” said Payton.

Apple was drafted by the Giants with the `10th overall pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. In 2017, the Giants would suspend Apple for “conduct detrimental to the team” and eventually traded Apple to the Saints. After a season and a half with New Orleans, the Saints chose not to pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal and parted ways with him.

Since then, Apple signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2020 but only appeared in two games all season. This year, Apple has found a spot on a successful team making a deep playoff push. With two interceptions and 49 tackles during the regular season, Apple has found a role to play on a Cincinnati defense that has held two playoff opponents to under 20 points this postseason.

Giants want Bill O’Brien for offensive coordinator opening

NFL front offices are working feverishly to rebuild or reassemble their coaching Staff as quickly as possible. one team in particular, the New York Giants, is looking to fill quite a few holes on their staff. Currently, the biggest need the giants have remaining is to land their head coach. And one of the coaches New York has in mind, Brian Flores might already have a potential running mate for their other need at offensive coordinator.

According to Giants reporter Art Stapleton, there is one big name attached to Flores if New York were to land him as their new head coach, Bill O’Brien.

“One name I’ve heard mentioned as an OC possibility if Brian Flores were to land as head coach with Giants: Bill O’Brien. Not the only choice, obviously, and no guarantee that it would happen, but names are always fun. And OC is absolutely a big part of Flores’ candidacy imo,” wrote Stapleton on Twitter.
