The Houston Texans used the third overall pick on Alabama edge rusher Will Anderson. Early in the team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he made his presence felt.

As the Jaguars lined up for a second quarter field goal attempt, Anderson was on the field to rush the kicker. He got home in a big way, blocking the kick and setting up the Houston Texans in good field position.

You can watch the blocked kick, here:

Houston used the good field position to march down the field and score. That made the blocked kick a potential 10-point swing against a division rival.

The Houston Texans went into the 2023 NFL Draft trying to completely rebuild their roster. To do that, the Texans used the second overall pick on quarterback CJ Stroud. The Texans then made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for the third overall pick. They used it on Will Anderson.

In total, Houston gave up two first round picks, a second round pick, and a third round pick for the pick that became Will Anderson and another pick that Houston would go on to trade.

So far, despite the steep price, Houston has to be happy with Will Anderson. He earned a sack in his first career game against the Baltimore Ravens. Now, he can add a blocked kick to his list of accomplishments.

While at Alabama, Anderson was a dominant force. He had 34.5 sacks and 58.5 tackles for loss in three college seasons. During that time, he became known as one of the best pass rushers in the country and one of the best defensive players ever at Alabama.

Will Anderson on his relationship with CJ Stroud

Houston used the 2023 NFL Draft to take who the franchise expects to be the face of both the offense and defense for years to come in CJ Stroud and Will Anderson. Because of that, the two have an important relationship.

Ahead of their rookie seasons, Anderson opened up about the relationship that the pair have.

“It makes both of our jobs really easy, we lean on each other a lot. When I’m having a bad day he picks me up, if he’s having a bad day I pick him up. We always tell each other we’ve been playing football for a long time, it’s just at another level with greater competition, it’s what we do. And I think the coaches do a really good job of making sure that we’re prepared and that we know what to do,” Anderson said.

“We gotta make me better you know what I’m saying? He can do everything that you want out of a quarterback so it’s really great going against a guy like CJ who has all the tools and ability to help me see different type of quarterbacks each week.”
