Over the last two seasons, Spencer Rattler and Xavier Legette served as key part of the South Carolina offense. They developed a strong connection, and that played a part in their big performances in 2023.

Now, they’re hoping to keep things going to the NFL – and they’ve already spent time together during the pre-draft process.

Rattler and Legette both headed to Mobile for the Senior Bowl this month. While Legette missed the game due to injury, Rattler brought home the game’s MVP award, which will surely help his NFL Draft stock.

His former top receiver certainly has his back.

“Us playing the whole season and then us going through this whole draft process together, it’s just gonna continue to get better,” Legette told 5GOATs via Zoom from the Panini America VIP event in Las Vegas ahead of the Super Bowl. “We’re just making each other better. Spencer Rattler, he’s a great player. The IQ he has for the game, the way he communicates on and off the field, I think he’s going to succeed in the NFL, as well.”

Rattler transferred in from Oklahoma ahead of the 2022 season and had a solid year, throwing for 3,026 yards and 18 touchdowns upon his arrival. His 2023 numbers were even better with 3,186 yards and 19 touchdowns in new coordinator Dowell Loggains’ system. Legette also flourished, hauling in 71 receptions for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns.

Both players took big strides over the last two years – and, according to Legette, their journeys are only just beginning.

“I’ll just say me, personally, I feel like both of us, we’re as comfortable as we can be,” said Legette, who spent Super Bowl weekend at the Panini Prizm VIP event. “We went out there and just put on a show, mostly every game. It’s just going to continue to get better.”

Both Xavier Legette and Spencer Rattler have seen their names come up in mock drafts and rankings during the pre-draft process. Legette came in as the No. 28 overall pick in CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli’s mock draft earlier this month, while Rattler ranks as ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.’s No. 7 quarterback in this year’s draft. Depending on how the board shakes out in April, there’s a chance Rattler and Legette could wind up on the same team once again.

That’s a conversation for another time – though Legette said he and Rattler have mentioned it a couple times.

“Not trying to get too far ahead of ourselves,” Legette said. “But we do have little small conversations like, ‘Man, if we’re able to be on the same team, it’s gonna be a problem.'”
