Xavier Worthy runs blazing 4.22 second 40-yard dash
Former Texas receiver Xavier Worthy turned in a blistering 4.25 second time in the 40-yard dash, Saturday, at the NFL Combine. And then he bettered it, with a combine tying the combine record of 4.22.
And folks, it gets better. The official time came along several minutes later. Worthy ran a 4.21. He owns the combine record.
“Crazy,” a still breathless Worthy told NFL Network. “I watched the combine my whole life, as a kid, I never thought I could be on the same stage and do that.”
Worthy appeared to have tied a record established by former Washington receiver John Ross, who ran his 4.22 at the 2017 combine. The 40 helped vault him to the ninth pick of the draft that year.
Meanwhile, this year’s NFL draft is stacked with elite receivers. And Worthy definitely found a way to stand out as the NFL conducts its scouting combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. It is the fastest of any combine participant so far.

It was a great day for Texas Longhorn receivers at the NFL Combine. You had Worthy breaking the record and basking in the attention of the 16,000 fans at Lucas Oil Stadium. Earlier Saturday, Longhorn teammate Adonai Mitchell ran a 4.34, which was the quickest time amongst the first group of receivers. The time ended up as the third fastest time for the position. Add this detail. Mitchell is 6 foot 2 and 205 pounds.
