Derrick Nix Q&A: 'My focus is being a fundamental scoring machine'

AUBURN -- It wasn't an easy decision for longtime Ole Miss assistant coach Derrick Nix to leave that program to join Hugh Freeze at Auburn, but it's a decision that he ultimately made to further his career. Nix spent the past 16 seasons at Ole Miss, mostly as a running backs coach, with some recent years spent coaching the wide receivers. He coached with Freeze during Freeze's tenure as head coach at Ole Miss, so re-joining Freeze was a comfortable move. It wasn't without some drama though, as Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin fought hard to keep Nix on staff, even posting on X cryptic messages about Nix staying. But in the end, Nix chose to make more money and elevate his coaching status to offensive coordinator with Freeze and Auburn.
