The last time Georgia's defense allowed 200+ rushing yards was to LSU in 2018 -- until Saturday, when Auburn rushed for 219 yards on the No. 1 team in college football. In fact, it's only the fourth time since the start of the 2017 season that a team rushed for 200+ yards on Georgia, and two of those instances have been by Auburn: the 2017 regular season blowout win and on Saturday. To go even further for Auburn, it was the first time they topped 100 yards rushing on Georgia since 2018, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Hugh Freeze and Philip Montgomery's commitment to run the football behind offensive line coach Jake Thornton's bunch was tone of the primary reasons Auburn stayed within striking distance until the very end, ultimately falling 27-20. "That's something we preached all week to the guys. When you play the number one team in the country, you have to establish the line of scrimmage. That alone will give you a chance to win, then you have to capitalize on all the other stuff as well, but that's where it starts," Thornton said. "We try to take pride in that every week, but especially this week. I feel like our guys played hard and physical, and competed in that area of the game." Read more inside.
