AUBURN -- Auburn basketball is rolling with three straight dominant wins and Alabama State up next on Friday evening inside Neville Arena. The Tigers are up to No. 7 in the KenPom ratings and No. 22 in the NCAA's NET ratings after an 8-2 start. "The best way to have a Merry Christmas is to continue to play well against Alabama State," Bruce Pearl said on Thursday. The game will mark the return of former Auburn assistant coach Tony Madlock, who was an assistant under former head coach Tony Barbee. "I hope he gets a nice greeting from our fans," Pearl said. "Coach Madlock is well respected in our industry, been doing it a long time and the right way. Part of the reason we are playing Alabama State was in recognition os him and his career and his excellence. They have played everybody, one of the toughest schedules in the country. They are not going to be intimidated by us, Neville Arena or the competition. The SWAC has a history of great upsets." Alabama State's schedule ranks as the 22nd toughest so far according to KenPom, having played Ole Miss (10-point loss), Iowa (31-point loss), Memphis (17-point loss), LSU (18-point loss) and USC (20-point loss). "We will have to continue to play well," Pearl said. "Our one-on-one challenges will be challenged against some players that can really make some instant offense. Transition defense will be important for us as well." More from Pearl inside.
