AUBURN -- Well, that was certainly an up-and-down week for Auburn basketball, but such is life in the SEC and against NCAA Tournament teams. Auburn (19-5, 8-3) took care of business at home, defeating SEC-leading Alabama by 18 points and earning a big Quad I win. But then life on the road struck again, as the Tigers fell at Florida by 16 and trailed by as many as 29 points. All in all, coming out of that week 1-1 isn't the worst outcome in the world, it was probably expected to some degree. Getting down nearly 30 points wasn't expected, but fighting back to make it 16 does matter in the eyes of the computers. What's more important now is that Auburn holds serve at home from here on out. To win the SEC regular season championship, the Tigers have to beat South Carolina (21-3, 9-2) and Kentucky (16-7, 6-4) this week. The Gamecocks enter tied atop the SEC standings with Alabama, while the Wildcats just lost their third straight game inside Rupp Arena for the first time in the history of the arena. The Tigers have to get both of these games. Auburn has beaten South Carolina six straight times, with five of those coming by double digits. Meanwhile, Auburn and Kentucky have split their last 10 meetings dating back to the 2017-18 season, with the Tigers winning three straight inside Neville Arena. Win or lose, as we always do, let’s highlight not three standouts from the last week.
