CLEMSON — Westlake cornerback Avieon Terrell is following in the footsteps of his older brother A.J.

The younger Terrell committed to Clemson on Monday, announcing his decision on social media. Terrell becomes the fifth commit for the Tigers in the class of 2023. Terrell made a trip to Clemson on Wednesday for an unofficial visit to put a bow on his recruitment.

He was the first player offered by the Tigers in the class of 2023. Clemson offered during Terrell’s freshman year of high school. He is now the No. 269 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings.

A.J. Terrell was a star at Clemson before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the NFL Draft. Terrell’s high school teammate, Nate Wiggins, plays for the Tigers currently.

Clemson felt like family for the younger Terrell. He’s had his mind and heart set on Clemson for about two weeks now.

“It was a family atmosphere,” Terrell told On3. “Everything up there just felt like home. I couldn’t build a relationship with anyone else like the one I had with Clemson. … It was just family. I couldn’t go anywhere else.”

It wasn’t solely due to his connections to the program through blood relationships that led him to Clemson. Since the Tigers offered, they built their own relationship with Terrell and it paid off.

During last week’s visit, Terrell spent much of Wednesday alongside Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney, who made it clear that Terrell was a priority.

Terrell was accompanied on the trip by several family members.

“I definitely built my own relationship with them,” Terrell said. “We talked about how they wanted to use me. They want to play me everywhere.”

The early offer was a badge of pride for Terrell over the last few years.

“That felt great to me,” Terrell said. “It was only right that I go there. I was their first 2023 offer.”
