The NC State game sold Tampa Bay (Fla.) 2024 four-star cornerback Tavoy Feagin on Clemson. The No. 200 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Consensus rankings is Clemson’s first commit in the class of 2024.

Feagin didn’t need to wait, though he says his recruitment is still open. Clemson has blown him away throughout the process from the coaches to the culture to the bonds.

“It was really the relationship with the coaching staff on the defensive side of the ball,” Feagin said. “It was the relationship between me, coach (Mike Reed), coach Dabo (Swinney) and coach (Wes) Goodwin that made the decision…They look at me as an all-around corner. I will be able to tackle, I’ll be able to cover. They feel like I fit the program.”

Coach Reed’s connection with Feagin goes beyond the football field.

“Coach Reed is like is not just another coach, he’s a person that I look up to like a mentor that I can always come to for any information or any questions,” Feagin said. “The same goes for coach Dabo.”

Swinney coached Feagin’s father at Alabama. Swinney was the Crimson Tide’s wide receiver coach when Michael Feagin was in Tuscaloosa from 1995-1999.

That connection played a huge role for Feagin as well as his family. There was a comfort there.

“It played a big role,” Feagin said. “Not just for me, but for my family. It was important for me to feel comfortable in the program but also important for my family to feel comfortable with the program. If my family isn’t comfortable, I won’t be comfortable.”

Tavoy Feagin has known Clemson was home for a while

Feagin felt like he was home while watching the Tigers host NC State back in the first week of October. Feagin got one-on-one time with Swinney during that visit.

That was a big experience for Feagin.

“To be able to do one-on-one with coach Swinney and see his thought process throughout the recruiting process and him believing in me to be a leader on the team one day (was big),” Feagin said.

Feagin is a believing in being a leader. He is the first pledge in the class of 2024. Feagin will get the opportunity to be one of the early voices in that class as it builds over the next two years.

“It’s a good feeling knowing that I’m not a follower, I’m a leader for this Clemson recruiting class,” Feagin said. “Any other school, I know that I would just be another star going into that class. With Clemson, I know I’m going to be a leader in that class trying to others to come on over.”
