Former Clemson star defensive lineman Christian Wilkins was in town for ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning and was the guest picker on the show.

After ESPN analysts Desmond Howard and Pat McAfee made their picks, it was Wilkins’ turn.

The current Miami Dolphins defender chose Clemson, which wasn’t a surprise, stating that the Tigers are ready to reclaim a hold on the rivalry.

“Dave Doeren and NC State, they’ve been our little brothers in the ACC for as long as I’ve been around, for as long as I can remember,” Wilkins said. “They struck lightning last year. Lightning’s not going to strike for NC State twice. I’m going with the Tigers.”

Wilkins added that he expects Tigers quarterback DJ Uiagalelei to continue to build off of his strong start to the season.

The junior passed for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns last weekend against Wake Forest, leading Clemson to a come-from-behind victory.

Wilkins expects Uiagalelei to continue to play well Saturday night.

“DJ Uiagalelei has been getting better and better each week,” Wilkins said. “I think this is the game he puts college football on notice, lets everybody know that he is for real. I think the defense is going to be on it tonight.”

As for Howard and McAfee, they are split on the game. Howard expects the Tigers to find a way to win at home.

“Clemson’s defense got exposed, the secondary a week ago. But I think they’re going to bounce back,” he said. “I think Will Shipley is the guy to keep an eye on in tonight’s matchup. I’m going Clemson Tigers with the W.”

McAfee predicts that NC State will pull off the upset.

“The NC State Wolfpack defense, led by [defensive coordinator] Tony Gibson and that 3-3-5… Give me NC State,” McAfee said. “The Wolfpack upsets the record books here in Death Valley.”
