Clemson is back in business when it comes to recruiting in the trenches.

On Friday, the coaching staff landed a commitment from pass rusher target Jahiem Lawson. Lawson, the No. 91 EDGE prospect in the country, has now become the only defensive lineman pledge in Clemson’s current 2022 class.

This announcement comes nearly two weeks after Lawson wrapped up a three-day official visit with the Tigers. The three-star prospect committed during his trip, but opted to make it official later on.

“It’s been pretty hard for me. One of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” Lawson told Clemson Sports on Friday. “But when I went on my official visit to Clemson they really welcomed me in. I felt really welcomed. I felt home. That was kind of my choice, to stay home.”

The Tigers first entered the mix for Lawson on Dec. 21, which was just over five weeks ago. Lawson, a product of D.W. Daniel High School, immediately set up his official visit to Clemson following the offer.

With Lawson now in the fold, Dabo Swinney’s program has collected commitments from six South Carolina-based prospects. The other ones are Adam Randall, Antonio Williams, Collin Sadler, Jeadyn Lukus, and Josh Sapp.

Clemson continues their momentum, eyeing more additions

Lawson’s commitment continues the roll that Clemson has been on recently.

In less than two weeks of Nick Eason being on the staff, they’ve been given a spot in former Auburn defensive lineman commit Caden Story’s top three.

They’ve also become one of the top contenders for recent offers Andrew Paul, as well as four-star linebacker T.J. Dudley.

During their Jan. 14-16 visit weekend, Clemson landed commitments from Cole Turner and Myles Oliver following their official visits. Turner (wide receiver) and Oliver (cornerback) each become the third players at their respective positions to join the Tigers’ 2022 class.

Prior to Lawson’s announcement, Clemson had already landed a pair of commitments this week. Alabama-based safety Kylon Griffin committed on Tuesday, while former FIU pledge Kobe McCloud joined the fold a day later.

Starting on Friday, Clemson is expected to play host to Dudley for his official visit. There’s a real chance that when it’s all said and done, they’ll land eight or even all nine of their official visitors for the month of January.

The Tigers have some positive momentum going on the trail following the commitments of Griffin, Lawson, McCloud, Oliver, and Turner. They’ll look to finish on an even stronger note with National Signing Day right around the corner.
