CLEMSON — Dabo Swinney has moved quickly to hire a new offensive coordinator.

Garrett Riley is expected to lead the Clemson offense moving forward, On3 has confirmed. Riley spent this past season as the offensive coordinator at TCU.

Riley helped the Horned Frogs reach the College Football Playoff this past season. TCU beat Michigan to reach the national title game, before getting blown out by Georgia on Monday.

Riley won the Broyles Award as the top assistant coach in college football this past season.

The Horned Frogs averaged 455 yards per game in 2022 and put up 38.8 points per game, which tied for ninth nationally.

Riley is replacing former Clemson offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter, who was fired by Swinney earlier Thursday.

“I am incredibly appreciative of Brandon for all he accomplished at Clemson in his 15 years as a player, graduate assistant, position coach and offensive coordinator. I am thankful for Brandon and love him and his family. He has always represented Clemson University with great pride, and I know he will continue to do great things,” Swinney said in a statement.

“As the leader of this program, I am accountable for our staff and accountable for our results, and though we took a step forward offensively in 2022, after evaluating our offense in-depth, I felt it was in the best interest of our program to seek new leadership at that position. These decisions are never easy, but it is my job to evaluate and assess every part of our program every year, and this was just the right time to make a change.”

Riley arrived at the Pickens County Airport Thursday night, along with his family. Swinney joined him on the flight, which arrived in the Upstate from Fort Worth, Texas.

Prior to his time at TCU, Riley was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at SMU.

He has also spent time at Appalachian State, Kansas and East Carolina.

Garrett Riley is the younger brother of current Southern Cal head coach Lincoln Riley. He played college football at Texas Tech.

Clemson is looking to revamp its offense after a disappointing end to the 2022 season.

The Tigers won at least 10 games for the 12th consecutive year, finishing 11-3 (8-0). Clemson also won the ACC for the seventh time in eight seasons.

However, Clemson lost to all three non-ACC Power 5 teams it played.

Notre Dame and South Carolina both beat Clemson in November, before Tennessee beat the Tigers in the Orange Bowl to end the 2022 season.
