An important piece of Clemson’s freshman class is set to miss some time.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney revealed following Wednesday’s practice that freshman cornerback Jeadyn Lukus will have to undergo shoulder surgery.

Lukus will have the procedure done when Clemson returns from spring break in late March.

“Jeadyn, we’re going to have to do a little surgery on him. We’ll probably let him almost until spring break so he can get some good work right now foundationally,” Swinney said. “And then we’ll probably clean him up a little bit. He’s got a little shoulder thing we’ll clean up so he’s 100 percent ready to go when we crank it up.”

Lukus was ranked as the No. 39 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus rankings.

Swinney is pleased with where Lukus and fellow freshman cornerback Toriano Pride are at the moment. Pride was ranked as the No. 67 overall player in the nation.

Both players are expected to help the Tigers come this fall.

“Toriano is as advertised. Jeadyn Lukus – same thing,” Swinney said. “We’ve seen enough out of him right out of the gate. Both of those kids are going to be able to help us. … It’s a really talented group.”

Clemson receiver banged up

Tigers redshirt freshman receiver Troy Stellato continues to deal with bad luck.

The Florida native was injured on the first practice of the spring — pulling his hamstring — and has been out ever since.

Stellato was the No. 26 receiver in the country for the class of 2021, but despite the Tigers dealing with injuries throughout last season, he didn’t play much.

Stellato also battled injuries at times last season and was behind as far as the playbook after not arriving to Clemson until last summer.

Tight end Jake Briningstool is also out for the moment with a hip injury, but he should be back at practice soon.

“Brining will be fine. He’s got a little hip pointer,” Swinney said. “Hopefully he’ll be ready to go by Friday.”
