CLEMSON — Hunter Renfrow proved this season while playing for the Raiders that he is one of the best receivers in the NFL. Now the former Clemson star is being honored as such.

Renfrow has been named to his first Pro Bowl, Clemson Sports confirmed on Sunday. An official announcement of Renfrow being added to the AFC Pro Bowl roster is expected to come in the next couple of days.

The 26-year-old Renfrow just wrapped up his third season in the league. He had his best year yet in 2021, finishing with 103 catches for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.

This marked Renfrow’s first season with 100 catches and his first with 1,000-plus yards.

Renfrow tied for ninth in the NFL in receptions and 21st in yards. Cooper Kupp led the NFL in both categories this past season.

Renfrow was originally named an alternate for the Pro Bowl as the AFC was set to be represented by Tyreek Hill, Ja’Marr Chase, Stefon Diggs and Keenan Allen.

Either Hill or Chase will be unable to play in the Pro Bowl because either the Chiefs or Bengals will be in the Super Bowl.

The 2022 Pro Bowl will be held next Sunday, Feb. 6 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Kick off is set for 3 p.m.

Hunter Renfrow’s rise from a one-time walk-on receiver at Clemson to an NFL Pro Bowler is a remarkable one. After a redshirt year at Clemson in 2014, he had 33 catches for 492 yards and five touchdowns in 2015, including a pair of touchdowns against Alabama in the national title game.

The following year, Renfrow had 44 catches for 495 yards and six touchdowns. He once again had a pair of touchdowns against Alabama, and this time he caught the game-winner with one second left on the clock to deliver Clemson its first national title since 1981.

He earned third-team All-ACC honors each of the next two years and won his second national title with the Tigers as a redshirt senior in 2018.

Despite all of his success in college, Renfrow never had a 100-yard game at Clemson. However, he’s had five so far in the NFL, including three this past season.
