Clemson guard declares for NBA draft, enters transfer portal

Clemson guard Clyde Trapp could return to college basketball next season, but if so it appears as though he won’t be playing for Clemson.

Trapp announced Wednesday afternoon that he is entering the NBA draft but not hiring an agent.

He also entered the transfer portal on Wednesday.

By not hiring an agent, Trapp is able to return to college basketball. However, he will be playing elsewhere as a grad transfer.

“I have decided to enter my name into the 2021 NBA draft,” Trapp said as part of a statement on Twitter. “I do not plan on signing with an agent, keeping the option of returning as a grad transfer open.”

Trapp started all 24 games for Clemson last season, averaging 7.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He was also second on the team in assists (61) and minutes played per game (28.8).

“I want to thank Clemson University and the coaching staff for a successful 4 years,” Trapp said on Twitter. “Clemson will always be a special place to me. I am excited to see what is next for me and my future.”

Trapp is the third player to leave Clemson’s program since the season ended. John Newman and Olivier-Maxence Prosper entered the transfer portal earlier this month.

In addition, guard Lucas Taylor, who signed with Clemson for the class of 2021, was released from his letter of intent.
