The Florida Gators finished the 2022 season ranked No. 21 in the country according to D1Baseball.com.

The eight teams that made it to the College World Series comprised the top eight teams in the country at the end of the season. The Ole Miss Rebels won their first National Championship, even though the Rebels were one of the last four teams to make it into the NCAA Tournament.

In total, seven SEC teams finished the season ranked inside the Top 25.

Gator finish the season strong

Florida’s 2022 season began with a series loss to Liberty but quickly got back on track. The Gators went down to Coral Gables and took two of three from a top-25 ranked Miami. Despite the 1-2 start, the Gators entered SEC play with a 13-4 record. They took two of three on the road at Alabama and were an inning away from sweeping the Tide.

Along the way, the team’s youth began to show. The Gators lost two of three at home to LSU. They were swept in Athens by Georgia and by April 24 had fallen to 6-12 inside the conference.

The end of the season saw the Gators make a run unlike any the program had in recent years. Florida watched Jud Fabian hit 20 home runs in back-to-back seasons, something only Brad Wilkerson had done before. Wyatt Langford tied the single-season home run record (26). Freshman Carsten Finnvold threw one of the gutsiest games anyone had ever seen to help the Gators advance to the Gainesville Regional Championship game.

All in all, only one team can dogpile in Omaha. That wasn’t the Gators in 2022 but the team is poised to bring a lot of talent back in 2023, and you only need to look at Ole Miss in 2022. Anything can happen when a team gets hot at the right time of the season.
