FINAL: No. 20 Florida falls at No. 11 Tennessee, 38-33

The No. 20 Florida Gators (2-2, 0-2) suffered their second loss of the season at the No. 11 (4-0, 1-0) Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday night by a score of 38-33.

It was Florida’s first loss against Tennessee since 2016, and the series now stands at 31-21 in Florida’s favor.

Fourth quarter

As the Gators were driving in the red zone, Richardson fumbles and Tennessee takes over on downs with 12:34 to play in the game.

The Volunteers capitalized on Richardson’s fumble and have made it a three-possession game with a 5 yard touchdown rush from running back Jaylen Wright. It’s 38-21 Tennessee with 7:55 to play.

UF running back Montrell Johnson gets his first score of the day with a 5 yard rushing touchdown. The two-point conversion is no good, and the Volunteers lead 38-27 with 4:49 to play.

The Gators scored with 17 seconds remaining on a 3 yard touchdown pass from Richardson to wide receiver Ricky Pearsall. The two-point conversion was no good, and the Volunteers lead is cut to 38-33.

UF linebacker Diwun Black recovered the onside kick, but Richardson and the Florida offense was unable to convert on the hail mary, giving Tennessee the win.

Third quarter

Tennessee opens the second half of play with a five play drive that results in a touchdown. The Volunteers now lead 24-14 with 12:08 to play in the third quarter.

Richardson rallies his troops and marches right down the field for a score on a quarterback sneak. The Gators have cut the Volunteers’ lead to 24-21 with 5:55 to play in the third.

The Volunteers answer with a touchdown drive of their own and punch it in from the goal line. They have yet another double digit lead with 3:58 to play in the third quarter of play.

Second quarter

The Gators open up the second quarter with their first touchdown pass of the season from Richardson to tight end Keon Zipperer. They lead 7-3 with 12:41 to play in the first half.

Tennessee responds with a three play, 42 second drive for 75 yards capped by a Hendon Hooker touchdown rush, and the Volunteers lead 10-7.

Richardson now has a touchdown through the air and on the ground as he finishes off the Gators’ 75 yard drive with a 7 yard rushing touchdown.

The UF defense comes up with another big play with a strip sack on fourth and eight, and the Gators will take over at their own 38 yard line with 5:13 to play in the first half.

Tennessee drives the length of the field and takes the lead just before the half is over with a 1 yard passing touchdown. The Volunteers lead 17-14 as both teams head into the locker room.

First quarter

The Gators go for it on fourth and two at the Tennessee 20 yard line, and quarterback Anthony Richardson is stuffed for a loss of 1 yard. The Volunteers will get their first drive at their own 21 yard line with 9:49 to play in the first quarter.

The Florida defense comes up big as linebacker Ventrell Miller comes up with a strip as the Volunteers were driving. Richardson and his offense will set up shop at their own 12 yard line.

UF drives down the field but is unable to convert as kicker Adam Mihalek misses a 50-yard field goal.

Tennessee answers with a 32-yard field goal from kicker Chase McGrath, and the Volunteers have taken a 3-0 lead with 1:11 to play in the first quarter of play.
