Grad transfer Nick Jackson is headed to the University of Iowa. The 6-foot-1, 235-pound middle linebacker from Virginia announced his commitment to the Hawkeyes today after visiting campus in late January.

An Atlanta native, Jackson was a three-time All-ACC selection at Virginia. This past season, he racked up 104 tackles, seven tackles for loss, and five sacks. A team captain, the Cavaliers named Jackson defensive MVP following the 2022 season.

Named among the top 10 defensive players in the portal, Jackson chose Iowa over Oklahoma, Auburn, LSU, West Virginia, and Vanderbilt, among others. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Impact for Iowa

Landing a high profile transfer like Jackson is the cherry on top of an impressive recruiting haul for the the Hawkeyes this off-season. Coming in with extensive starting experience at a Power Five program, he will provide immediate help in 2023. That will be particularly beneficial for Iowa as they look to replace last year’s starters at inside linebacker, Jack Campbell and Seth Benson.

Iowa’s transfer additions

Overall, Jackson is the seventh scholarship addition for the Iowa coaching staff from the transfer portal as he joins quarterback Cade McNamara, tight end Erick All, wide receiver Seth Anderson, offensive tackle Daijon Parker, quarterback Deacon Hill, and interior offensive lineman Rusty Feth.

The Hawkeyes have also added walk-on transfers in tight end Hayden Large and wide receiver Austin Kutscher this winter.
