If you search the internet and various YouTube links, you have find some of the on the court work of Navon Shabazz. After spending the last few years at NSU University School in Florida, the talented 6-foot-4 guard in the Class of 2026 has returned back home to the state of Iowa.

“I loved my experience there and I got to work with a lot of good coaches, but it’s been good to be back home and be around my family and friends,” Shabazz said.

While rankings are hard to come back for younger players, Shabazz has been considered the best player in the state of Iowa in his class. He’s now back home and is transferring to Davenport Assumption the rest of his high school career.

“I really like the coaches at Assumption and the felt a bond with the players on the team.”

Last week, Shabazz and his teammates headed to North Carolina and took part in a team camp at Wake Forest University. The Demon Deacons are coached by Iowa native Steve Forbes. Assistant coaches Matt Woodley and Jason Shay also have strong ties to Iowa.

After playing eight games in three days, the Wake Forest staff had seen enough and extended a scholarship offer to the talented sophomore to be.

“I didn’t think I was going to get it. The head coach came over and told me that I had the offer and I was excited.”

Shabazz also said he is hearing from Florida State, Miami, and Iowa State early on in the process. Iowa’s coaches will certainly be checking in on him now that he has officially moved back home to Iowa.

For the rest of the summer, Shabazz says he will continue training and working on his game with his father. Beyond that he will be playing Nightrydas Elite, who is based out of Florida and plays in the Nike Sponsored EYBL.
