Grant Field played host to a big one on Friday afternoon, as the second-ranked Northwestern Wildcats were in town to face the third-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes. In the 82nd meeting between the two programs, it was Northwestern that came away with the 2-0 victory.
After a scoreless first half, the ‘Cats opened the scoring just 62 seconds into the second half on a penalty corner. Ilse Tromp’s shot snuck just inside the left post and past GK Mia Magnotta. Then, in the 49th minute, Lauren Wadas scored her second goal of the season to make it a two-goal advantage for the Wildcats. The Hawkeyes thought they had cut the lead in half with a goal in the 58th minute, but after a review, it was determined that the goal was illegally scored off the leg of Annika Herbine. The goal was taken off the board and Northwestern held on for the 2-0 win.
