Newsstand: Michigan football slides into a game week routine

Michigan football fans, the wait is nearly over. The Wolverines are out of fall camp and officially into game prep for the 2023 season, albeit with a twist.
Starting Monday, the game week routine kicks into action. Head coach Jim Harbaugh will speak to the media on Monday afternoon with players being made available afterward. On Tuesday evenings we will speak with more players and then round out game availability with a pair of assistant coaches on Wednesdays.
Of course, the first three games of the year will be headlined by Harbaugh’s suspension and a showcase for four of his assistant coaches. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter will run the show this Saturday against East Carolina while running backs coach Mike Hart and safeties coach/special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh will split duties in Week 2 against UNLV. Offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Sherrone Moore will close out the non-conference running the game against Bowling Green in Week 3. Moore will also be suspended for the season opener.

Jim Harbaugh returns to the sideline in Week 4 for the Big Ten opener against Rutgers.
While position battles will go into the regular season, the bulk of practice work turns its attention to the opponent each week. The contest in Week 1 against ECU is set for a noon kickoff that will be streamed exclusively on the Peacock app. We will have full coverage throughout the week and all season, so be sure to keep it locked her for the latest news, notes, analysis and more.

Michigan quote of the day
“Nugent developed into a two-year starter at center for Stanford and looks ready to be a plug-and-play solution for the Wolverines as they replace Olu Oluwatimi, who also came in via the portal and became a consensus All-American and winner of the Rimington Award (college football’s best center) and Outland Trophy (best interior lineman). That’s a lot to live up to for Nugent, but the 6-foot-2, 301-pound grad transfer has impressed teammates with his work ethic and tenacity. One coach said he’s smart, quick and dependable and plays like a “little pit bull.”‘
