Michigan Wolverines football won its second consecutive Big Ten championship in 2022 — the first time it’s accomplished that feat since 2003-04 — and the rings the team received at a Saturday (June 3) ceremony make that very clear with etching that says, “back 2 back champions.”

In 2022, Michigan won 13 games for the first time in program history, took down Ohio State in Columbus for the first time since 2000, beat Purdue in the conference title game and made a second-straight College Football Playoff appearance. The Wolverines fell to TCU in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Maize and Blue welcomed back former players from last year’s team to celebrate and receive their rings at a Saturday ceremony inside Glick Fieldhouse, the team’s indoor practice facility. That building features banners commemorating Michigan’s back-to-back Big Ten championships. In the lobby of Schembechler Hall, murals with shots from the last two seasons and other Michigan football moments line the walls.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh spoke in front of the audience at the ceremony, before letting strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert take the podium to close things out.

This weekend is the first of multiple big official visit weekends on the Michigan campus this month. The Wolverines are hosting big-time recruits, including Charlotte (N.C) Providence Day four-star wide receiver Jordan Shipp, Austintown (Ohio) Fitch four-star EDGE Brian Robinson, Chesire (Conn.) Academy four-star EDGE Jacob Smith and West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade four-star safety Marquis Gallegos.

The rings feature the player of staff member’s name on it with a reminder of the 13 wins the team earned on one side, and the College Football Playoff logo on the other. The front features the Big Ten championship trophy and the block ‘M’ logo. Etched into the side is the score of the Ohio State game (45-23) and of the Purdue win (43-22).

Here are some looks at the Michigan Big Ten championship rings from posts on social media:

Michigan is 25-3 over the last two seasons, and with most of its key pieces from last season returning, the Wolverines — who’ve lost just one Big Ten game over the last two years — have high hopes for 2023. The Maize and Blue were a consensus top-three team in ‘way-too-early’ rankings this offseason and are likely to be placed in that same spot in the preseason rankings that will come out later this summer.
