Michigan football’s 31-10 at Indiana had plenty of storylines, headlined by the collapse of running backs coach Mike Hart on the sideline. The Wolverines found a way to rally, but lost another critical piece of the team late in the game.

Senior right tackle Trente Jones was carted off the field in the contest after going down in the 2nd half. Trainers were spotted working on his left foot before he was loaded up and medically evaluated.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh provided an update on his starting tackle after the game, while also praising his replacement – senior Karsen Barnhart.

[Karsen Barnhart] was great,” Harbaugh told the media. “I thought he did a great job. Great to have Karsen back and healthy. Trente probably has one of those dreaded high ankle sprains, but same thing Karsen Had. Now Karsen’s healed and back, and he’ll need to step up. We had a ton of confidence in Karsen. Have considered him a starter since the beginning of training camp.”

Barnhart missed time earlier this season with the same injury. Jones is likely to miss the team’s game vs. Penn State (12 p.m., FOX) next Saturday, but might have an outside shot to return for the Michigan State game on Oct. 29 following the bye week.

Jones has started all 6 games at right tackle this season for the Wolverines. The good news is they have a capable body ready to step in. We will see how Michigan bounces back from losing a piece from an offensive line starting to hit its stride.

Michigan football quote of the day

“Mike is a strong guy and abundant prayers go his way…it really puts things in perspective. In the moment, everybody’s thoughts were with Mike. Mine were and everyone around us was to get him the care that he needed…The most important thing is his health at that point in time.”
