The Michigan Wolverines had made brief contact with former five-star quarterback recruit Dante Moore, a Detroit native, but he officially came off the board on Monday night by committing to the Oregon Ducks. Moore had originally committed to Oregon before flipping to UCLA, where he played this past season.

Moore and the Ducks will come to Ann Arbor next year in the program’s first season in the Big Ten in a game scheduled for Nov. 2 at the Big House. Moore is expected to backup former Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who transferred in earlier this month.

At one point, several believed that Moore (6-3, 210), a five-star recruit in the 2023 class and No. 3 overall recruit, would wind up at Michigan before spurning them for Oregon, then flipping to UCLA. A lot of that is figured to be NIL-related, and one might assume that could be the case again as he searches for his next school. However, taking a deep breath and heading somewhere to be developed puts the former local high school star more in consideration than some originally thought.

Moore struggled after being thrown into the fire as a true freshman this season, throwing for 1,610 yards with 11 touchdowns and 9 interceptions while completing 53.5% of his throws. He was also sacked 25 times on the year. There were flashes of what he could be mixed with many rough patches.

Michigan feels likely to add an arm for the 2024 season whether or not J.J. McCarthy returns in 2024 or not. On Monday, McCarthy said that he has not made a decision on his future and is focused on the Rose Bowl against Alabama.

Michigan quote of the day

“Mike [Barrett] sent it to me, then Ernest [Hausmann]. But just different. Just different. It’s like, they might be a little scared, you never know. But he’s got a job, I’m happy for him. So, I’m excited for him. I’m happy — I’ll probably say what’s up to him after the game. So you just gotta go out there and play ball.”
