The Michigan Wolverines lost their second player of the spring transfer portal window on Thursday with true freshman linebacker Jeremiah Beasley exiting the program, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He will have four seasons of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

Beasley was an early enrollee with the Wolverines this year and participated in spring camp, including last weekend’s Maize vs. Blue game in Ann Arbor.

The Michigan Wolverines lost their second player of the spring transfer portal window on Thursday with true freshman linebacker Jeremiah Beasley exiting the program, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Beasley, who was a star at Belleville High School and recently was featured on billboards in the area, was part of a team that went to three-straight state championship games. Last season, he posted 120 tackles (57 total) and five sacks in addition to playing running back, rushing 86 times for 893 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Beasley was set to compete for time at linebacker with freshman Cole Sullivan, junior Jimmy Rolder and others in rotational spots behind juniors Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham. The departure comes as a bit of a surprise, as he was complimented by position coach Brian Jean-Mary during spring practice.

“Obviously, the young kids, Cole Sullivan and Jeremiah Beasley, guys that should be in high school and they’re getting quality reps at spring practice, very, very excited about those two guys,” Jean-Mary said. “I think they’re going to be two high-end guys that are going to continue the tradition that we’ve had here of solid linebackers that a very, very productive. Been very, very happy with those guys.”

The linebackers could be in decent shape still, especially given defensive coordinator Wink Martindale’s experience. Michigan will not like losing a younger player, but could be in good hands at the position with Martindale and Jean-Mary leading the way.

“Wink says he’s the OG of the defense, I think he’s the OG of linebacker coaches, too. I’ve been doing it for a long time and there’s slight nuances that he sees that I don’t see,” Jean-Mary said. “It’s been a great learning experience for me. I’m like the players, man. I’m eager and hungry every day walking into the building seeing what I can do just from being with him that’s going to help elevate myself as a coach and help elevate the play of the linebackers.”

Beasley joins sophomore cornerback DJ Waller as the other spring portal departure.
