Michigan Wolverines graduate offensive lineman Trevor Keegan has officially called it a career in Ann Arbor, declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft after five seasons. He technically had a sixth season of eligibility remaining after a 2019 redshirt and COVID year in 2020.

Keegan was a fixture in Ann Arbor over his five years with the program as a three-time All-Big Ten selection (first team, coaches, 2022; second team, coaches, 2023; second team media, 2022-23; honorable mention, coaches and media, 2021) and was part of two Joe Moore Award-winning seasons in 2021-22 on the offensive line. Of course, his shining moment in a Michigan uniform came in the College Football Playoff with the unit playing two of its best games over the last few years against Alabama and Washington en route to a national title.

Keegan appeared in 44 games in his career with 37 starts at left guard, all of which came in the last three seasons. He could have easily declared for the draft last season, but was among the upperclassmen who came back for a chance to win a national title.

“It was super hard,” Keegan said last winter. “You grew up your whole life wanting to go to the NFL…when it’s in the grasp of your hands, you didn’t want to take it. But after talking to family, friends, coaches – you realize that maybe another year at Michigan can help me even more in the future. So that process took a while, talking to people and figuring it out There are people that say go, stay, go, stay…and it messes with your head. Finally, you just decide on your own, and I felt like this was the best decision for me.”

Keegan was a four-star recruit in the 2019 class and the No. 192 overall player, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was also ranked the No. 20 offensive tackle and best player in the state of Illinois out of Crystal Lake High School.

Michigan will break in two new starting guards next season with Giovanni El-Hadi as the leader to fill in for Keegan. El-Hadi started three games last season with Keegan injured and has been patiently waiting his turn for an expanded role on the offensive line.

Fellow guard and best friend Zak Zinter will also be headed to the NFL with plenty of competition for his vacated spot. The battle likely starts with Northwestern transfer Josh Priebe and current Michigan OL Jeffrey Persi, who could also factor into the offensive tackle mix.
