HOUSTON, Texas — Michigan Wolverines football captured its 12th-ever national championship with a 34-13 win over Washington Monday night at NRG Stadium. The Maize and Blue are atop of the college football world once again, for the first time since 1997.

Jim Harbaugh delivers Michigan national championship, further cements legend status

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is now one of six U-M coaches to lead his team to the national championship.
The program’s all-time leader in rushing touchdowns, senior running back Blake Corum punched in 2 scores and accounted for 134 of the Wolverines’ 303 rushing yards in the win over Washington.
Junior quarterback J.J. McCarthy meditates before every game. He completed 10 of his 18 pass attempts for 140 yards.
Michigan took the field to smoke and fire. The crowd went wild, about 60-40 U-M fans.
Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter’s defense held Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to only 5 yards per pass. The Huskies completed one pass of 20-plus yards, after leading the nation with 77 such plays coming in.
Junior running back Donovan Edwards ripped off 41- and 46-yard touchdown runs to help Michigan get out to a fast start, with the Wolverines leading 14-3 following his second score.
Graduate defensive back Mike Sainristil led Michigan with 8 tackles and had an interception.

Michigan sophomore defensive tackle Kenneth Grant bull rushed his man and got to Penix, registering the Wolverines’ lone sack of the game.
Corum scored 2 second half touchdowns for the Maize and Blue.
