Michigan tight end Erick All announces he will transfer
Another Michigan captain will depart the program, and this one is a surprise — tight end Erick All. The senior had surgery to repair a bad back and was expected to return next year. Instead, he’ll look for another place to play next season, he announced via social media.
“Wolverine nation, love you guys, but it’s time for me to move on,” All wrote in a tweet. I know some of you are wondering why I would leave, and the answer to that question is unexpected.
“Not everything/everyone are what they seem, and I learned that from my time here at Michigan. Sometimes you have to let go and do what’s best for you and your family. Love you guys. Go Blue.”

This one is an odd one given grad student Luke Schoonmaker will be moving on this season. Freshman Colston Loveland has emerged as a threat, but All would likely have been tight end No. 1 next year and given plenty of opportunities.
“He won’t be back this year,” Harbaugh told reporters earlier this year. “He had a surgery that he needed, and it) was successful. We look forward to rehab for Erick. He won’t be back this year.”
Or next year at Michigan, for that matter. He’s the second captain to leave the program before the end of the year, joining Cade McNamara. The quarterback was also injured, albeit much earlier in the season, and had knee surgery before announcing last week he’d stay in the Big Ten and head to Iowa.
In the 2021 season, All hauled in a 47-yard touchdown pass from Michigan’s Cade McNamara to defeat the Penn State Nittany Lions 21-17. It was his first career touchdown catch and it came at a perfect time. The clutch touchdown catch lifted the Wolverines to victory with 3:29 remaining in the fourth quarter against Penn State.
He was the Wolverines’ second-leading receiver during the 2021 season, hauling in 38 catches for 437 receiving yards, while bringing in two touchdowns. All earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors last season. After his “life-changing” surgery, he’ll take his talents elsewhere.
