Michigan Wolverines football has seen 10 players transfer out of the program since the December open to the NCAA transfer portal. Here’s a look at where they have committed to.

QB Cade McNamara

Destination: Iowa

Eligibility remaining: Two years

Cade McNamara lost Michigan’s starting quarterback battle to J.J. McCarthy early in the season, suffered a season-ending knee injury and was away from the team rehabbing most of the fall. The team captain left the program and committed to Iowa in early December, before the Wolverines’ season wrapped up. He’s in line to start for the Hawkeyes in 2023.

McNamara started 16 career games at Michigan, leading the Wolverines to the 2021 Big Ten title. He threw for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns with 6 interceptions that year.

TE Erick All

Destination: Iowa

Eligibility remaining: Two years

Erick All underwent season-ending back surgery early during Michigan’s 2022 campaign and decided to transfer after the Wolverines won the Big Ten championship. All totaled 54 catches for 565 yards and 2 touchdowns during his Michigan career.

He chose Iowa Dec. 14 following a weekend visit to Iowa City. The Hawkeyes lost star tight end Sam LaPorta but return Luke Lachey, who caught 28 passes for 398 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2022.

WR Andrel Anthony

Destination: Oklahoma

Eligibility remaining: Two years

Andrel Anthony never earned a starter role at Michigan and didn’t play like one when he did get in games. He had two multi-catch games during his career and totaled 18 receptions for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns in two seasons.

Oklahoma’s passing offense ranked 42nd nationally in 2022, and Anthony is set to bolster that as a likely starter.

EDGE Eyabi Okie

Destination: Charlotte

Eligibility remaining: One year

It was a surprise when Eyabi Okie entered the portal, but wasn’t in hindsight once rumors flew around that he’s likely wind up at Charlotte, where former Michigan associate head coach Biff Poggi is the new head man. Poggi coached Okie in high school. Charlotte is Okie’s fifth school in six seasons, joining Michigan, UT Martin, Houston and Alabama.

He made 18 tackles with 6 for loss, 4 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries and 2 pass breakups for the Wolverines in 2022.

EDGE Taylor Upshaw

Destination: Colorado

Eligibility remaining: One year

Like Okie, Taylor Upshaw was a backup at the edge rusher spot for Michigan in 2022. He appeared in 38 career games with two starts and made 12 tackles, including 3.5 stops for loss and 2 sacks, this past season.

Upshaw will join new head coach Deion Sanders with a Colorado program that is generating lots of transfer portal and recruiting buzz since he’s taken over.

LB Deuce Spurlock

Destination: Florida

Eligibility remaining: Four years

Deuce Spurlock redshirted in 2022, playing in just two games and making 3 tackles, before entering the portal after the Wolverines’ season. He impressed during fall camp practices but will look to make an impact at Florida. He’ll have an uphill climb to becoming a starter this fall.

QB Alan Bowman

Destination: Oklahoma State

Eligibility remaining: One year

Alan Bowman has become quite the journeyman in college football, headed to his third school after spending two seasons at Michigan and the prior three at Texas Tech. He completed just 8 passes during his two years with the Wolverines, and appeared to get passed up by junior-to-be Davis Warren on the depth chart.

TE Louis Hansen

Destination: UConn

Eligibility remaining: Three years

Louis Hansen hadn’t made an impact in his first two seasons at Michigan, playing just three games, and decided to move closer to home. UConn is roughly an hour away from his hometown of Dover, Mass. Head coach Jim Mora Jr. is building something with the Huskies, and Hansen is slated to be a big part of that on the offensive side of the ball.

DL George Rooks

Destination: Boston College

Eligibility remaining: Three years

George Rooks redshirted in 2021 and played as a backup in 2022. The Jersey City, Nj., native apparently didn’t see much of a path to playing time this coming fall and decided to go back to the Northeast. He totaled 1 tackle during his career with the Wolverines.

EDGE Julius Welschof

Destination: Charlotte

Eligibility remaining: One year

Julius Welschof played in 34 outings during his five-year career at Michigan and has chosen to move on. He joins Poggi and Okie at Charlotte, where he should receive much more playing time.
