The Michigan Wolverines were led on the field last season by running back Blake Corum, a captain and heart and soul of the team that went 15-0 and won a College Football Playoff National Championship. On Sunday, he was able to get additional recognition for his storied U-M career during the ceremonial first pitch at the Detroit Tigers vs. Oakland A’s game in the Motor City.

Corum, who actually was the second first pitch of the pre-game festivities, delivered a strike into Tigers catcher Jake Rogers’ glove.

“Looking back, I wish I’d brought a little bit more heat,” Corum said in an interview with Johnny Kane of Bally’s Sports Detroit. “I had a little more. I looked at my arsenal. I was like, ‘Do I want to throw a curve ball or a knuckle?’ I threw my two-seam fastball and it went right down the pipe.”

Corum had to make sure he brought some championship hardware with him to Comerica Park, showing off some of the rings he acquired at Michigan.

“I figured I’d put them on today. These are just two Big Ten rings,” he said, flexing his 2021 and 2022 Big Ten Championship rings. “We’ve got four more coming in on [April] 20th at the Spring Game. I’m excited to see those.”

The A’s defeated the Tigers 7-1 in Sunday’s contest. Corum and several other Michigan teammates will hear their names called in Detroit during the 2024 NFL Draft, just 45 minutes down the road from Ann Arbor from April 25-27.

Michigan quote of the day

“They’re going to have to give (picks 11 and 23) and their 2025 first, plus some more draft capital. I think J.J. will be a good pro, but Minnesota will overpay to get him. At this point, they don’t have a choice [given their current QB room].”
