Michigan recently dipped down into the Music City and put an offer on the table for Kris Thompson.

The fast-rising 2025 linebacker out of Nashville (Tenn.) Lipscomb Academy has seen his stock rise this fall and was thrilled when the Wolverines extended the scholarship.

“Coach (Jay) Harbaugh texted me a couple of weeks back that he wanted to get on the phone with me,” Thompson said. “He had been busy, but I finally got the phone call with the offer. I just started thanking God. I told my mom, and she went crazy. It’s a blessing. All my hard work is paying off.”

While Michigan safeties coach Jay Harbaugh dished out the offer, the Wolverines are recruiting Thompson as a linebacker. The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder is a thumper for Lipscomb Academy and likely projects as a MIKE at the next level.

Harbaugh is knowns for finding diamonds in the rough early on in the process and is making strong impression on Thompson so far.

“He was really cool,” Thompson said. “He was straight to the point. I could tell he knew his football for sure. There is different levels that coaches are on, and he’s at that Michigan level. I’m looking forward to talking to him more.”

Thompson is still getting familiar with Michigan, but it’s clear he has high interest in the program.

“I know Michigan is a great football program,” Thompson said. “They’ve been dominant for years. It’s Michigan. It’s The Big House. It’s where every kid dreams of playing.”

The next step for Thompson is making his first-ever visit to Michigan, which he hopes happens in the near future.

“I do want to make a visit at some point,” Thompson said. “I want to see the facilities. I want to see how things operate around there. I also want to learn about the different aspects outside of football. I don’t know too much about the culture, so I want to learn more about that.”

Along with Michigan, Thompson holds offers from Colorado, Florida, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, TCU, Virginia Tech and others.

Thompson is not ranked at this time.

Michigan has two verbal commitments in its 2025 recruiting class in Top 100 Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna defensive back Chris Ewald and four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka. The class is ranked No. 24 nationally, per the On3 Industry team recruiting rankings.
