Five Key Recruits Michigan Saw On The Road To End The Evaluation Period

Michigan’s staff was back on the road over the last couple of weeks and saw a number of top targets to end the spring evaluation period.

The Wolverine’s EJ Holland breaks down five key recruits the staff saw, including Top 100 Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei running back Jordon Davison.

Davison Recruitment

Michigan offered Davison as an underclassman. However, U-M was an afterthought in his recruitment until the arrival of new running backs coach Tony Alford.

Alford recruited Davison hard at his previous stop, Ohio State, and and immediately made him a top target after arriving in Ann Arbor. Alford was able to get Davison on campus for an unofficial visit this offseason and now has the Wolverines right in the mix heading into official visit season.

In fact, Michigan made Davison’s final four along with Alabama, Ohio State and Oregon. He is set to make his OV to Michigan on June 7.

So where does Michigan stand going into his return trip to Ann Arbor? Here is what Holland had to say about his recruitment.

“Davison is heavily favored to end up at Ohio State, and I would also agree that Ohio State has the lead heading into official visits,” Holland said. “With that said, Michigan recently made his Top 4 and is set to receive a summer official visit. Michigan running backs coach Tony Alford has been recruiting Davison dating back to his time at Ohio State. He was out in California to meet with Davison as well as most of Michigan’s staff. Michigan offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell and offensive line coach Grant Newsome both flew from Florida to California to meet with Davison. Michigan is probably running third in this recruitment right now behind Ohio State and Oregon. But perhaps Michigan will have a chance to change things on his official visit.”

Davison is set to make his final decision late in the summer.

At 5-foot-11, 220 pounds, Davison is ranked as the No. 5 running back and No. 90 overall recruit in the country, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 8 overall recruit in the state of California this cycle.

Ohio State has the lead on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine with an 81.3 percent chance of landing him. Michigan is currently tied for fourth place with Oregon with a 1.1 percent chance of landing him.
