Former Penn State defensive tackle Fatorma Mulbah entered the NCAA transfer portal back on Jan. 5. On Thursday, the defender announced where he will play next.

Mulbah is moving on to West Virginia, he said in a social media post. The 6-foot-3, 296-pound Pennsylvania native already has his degree from Penn State and will arrive in Morgantown with three years of eligibility remaining.

“As I reflect on my time at Penn State University, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the tremendous opportunity I have had to play football for Penn State,” Mulbah said in a statement when announcing that he was leaving the Lions. “I am thankful to God for guiding me on this journey, and I am forever indebted to Coach Franklin and the staff for giving me the opportunity.

“Penn State University has provided me with an experience that I will always cherish and hold dear to my heart. The relationships I have formed here, both on and off the field, are ones I know will last a lifetime. To Coach Scott and the rest of the coaching staff, thank you for being a part of my growth as an athlete. The past three years at Penn State have been truly transformative; I have had the privilege of forming meaningful relationships with a group of dedicated and passionate teammates who have supported and shaped me to become a better man.”

A Class of 2020 signee, Mulbah played mostly special teams in State College. After a redshirt season, he totaled six stops in 2021. Despite playing in 2022, he recorded no counting stats in the recently-completed 11-2 season for the Nittany Lions that ended with a Rose Bowl victory.

West Virginia will bring a few former Penn State players to State College for their Week 1 clash

Penn State opens the 2023 season on Sept. 2 when West Virginia comes to Beaver Stadium for the start of a two-year home-and-home series that concludes in 2024 with a trip to Morgantown for head coach James Franklin’s team.

This year’s matchup will feature a few familiar faces to Nittany Lion fans, even though they’ll be wearing gold and blue.

Mulbah is the second player with Penn State connections to pick the Mountaineers as a transfer destination this week. Receiver Devin Carter, who committed to PSU on Jan. 2 after announcing plans to leave North Carolina State following the 2022 season, flipped to the Big 12 program late Wednesday night.

Former Lions linebacker Lance Dixon is also expected to be back with WVU in 2023. He transferred into the program ahead of the 2021 season after two years in State College. He has so far recorded 58 tackles for the Mountaineers.
