Even before her announced retirement last week, Penn State athletic director Sandy Barbour’s future was in question.

Coming off the announced hire of new Penn State president Dr. Neeli Bendapudi in December, Barbour met with the media. In Tampa for the Outback Bowl in late December, Barbour was asked about her contract, signed in 2019, that runs through August 31, 2023.

“Obviously those will be conversations that our new president and I will have,” Barbour said.

“Certainly, from my perspective, I love Penn State. I love what I’m doing. As long as my health is good and I’m having fun, I certainly see that in my future. Obviously, Penn State and Dr. Bendapudi will make their decision as well.”

So what changed?

For the first time since she announced her impending retirement, set for this summer, Barbour will address the media Monday afternoon. Live from the Beaver Stadium press room, Barbour will take questions ahead of the start of Penn State football’s spring practices later in the afternoon.

In it, she’ll have an opportunity to discuss her time with the Nittany Lions athletic department since her hire in 2014. She’ll also have an opportunity to talk about the changing landscape of college athletics, the financial impact of COVID-19 on the Penn State athletic department, the ongoing new media rights deal negotiations taking place with the Big Ten, and more.

Blue White Illustrated will have full coverage from Barbour’s press conference.
