Penn State, Auburn kick time set for 3:30 p.m. on CBS
Another Penn State Nittany Lions football kickoff time is set ahead of the 2022 season. Announced Wednesday, Penn State will face Auburn for a 3:30 p.m. kick at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game is to be played Sept. 17, 2022 and will be broadcast by CBS.
The news was announced by CBS Wednesday morning in a press release unveiling its 2022 college football broadcast schedule.
More options appear to be available beyond the over the air broadcast for this year’s game, however. According to the release, “CBS Sports, which has been the highest-rated college football network for the past 13 years, will present a total of 22 games broadcast on the CBS Television Network and will stream live on Paramount+.”
The game also marks the first of the season for the SEC on CBS schedule for the network.
Penn State, Auburn renewed
After winning the 2021 matchup between the two teams at Beaver Stadium, the home-and-home will wrap for Penn State at Auburn this season. In order to defend its 28-20 win from last season, that means the Nittany Lions will have to do so in front of the 87,451 fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Given the atmosphere at Beaver Stadium last season, Penn State is likely to face a similarly daunting task.
“First of all, I want to give Auburn tons of credit,” Penn State head coach James Franklin said last year. “I thought they came in here and played extremely well. I thought their quarterback played extremely well. I thought they managed the environment pretty well on the road.”
For Penn State, it will be the second game in the first three weeks of the season the Nittany Lions will need to do so on the road.
Television schedule shaping up
The announcement of Penn State’s 3:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS follows a series of other television times that are shaping up for the 2022 season.
To open the season, the Nittany Lions will travel to Purdue on Sept. 1 for an 8 p.m. kickoff. That game will be broadcast nationally by FOX.
With ESPN and ABC having announced its 2022 schedule, without Penn State’s home date against Ohio State on it, FOX is also expected to carry the annual showdown between the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes. That game is set for Oct. 29 at Beaver Stadium.
Further, FOX is also expected to carry Penn State’s trip to Michigan on Oct. 15. If chosen, it would also likely be a noon kick.
