While we’ve been saying it for weeks now, it’s finally true that Penn State football is just around the corner. Spring practice starts one week from Monday, so we’ll take a deeper look at what to expect from competitions, depth, and positional stability this spring. Last week on the BWI Daily Edition, Nate Bauer and I discussed the safety position and the sticky situation the coaching staff finds themselves in at this point. After the decision to move Jonathan Sutherland to linebacker, Penn State has only have four scholarship players on the roster, but three seemingly fit one position. Only Jaylen Reed, the sophomore standout, is a natural fit for the boundary or quasi-strong safety position. So who will compete to push him for starting reps and playing time? Let’s start by laying out the problem.
