It’s Wednesday Penn State fans, which means head coach James Franklin met with the media earlier this evening.

The Nittany Lions are quickly approaching the end of spring practice, as Penn State conducted practice No. 11 Wednesday. The NCAA allows for teams to practice a total of 15 times in the spring. That means that there are three true practices remaining before next Saturday’s Blue-White Game inside Beaver Stadium.

Penn State also scrimmaged for the first time this past weekend. Franklin was asked about that to start Wednesday’s press conference.

“Overall, I was happy with the work we got done. I think I’ve mentioned to you guys before, we’re thin on the O-line, so we’ve had to be creative. Usually you go ones and then twos and then threes. Really, we have one O-line right now, so we’d go one O-line and then special teams, then come back with the two [offense] to give the O-line a little bit of a [break].”

The Penn State head coach went on to add, “But I was pleased with the work that we were able to get done. We got great film, and the O-line that are going are getting great work and their attitudes have been really good. That’s been positive. I’ve seen the defense each day get more and more confident with what we’re doing, and we have some pretty good competition going on right now at the kicking spot, so it’s been good overall.”

Because of the situation along the offensive line – Blue White Illustrated counted just seven offensive linemen for Penn State Wednesday night – there’s been talk that Franklin plans to make some changes to the spring game. He didn’t provide any details this evening, but said it’s something he’s still thinking about.

“I want to make it as game-like as I possibly can, but it’s hard to say that right now. As the game gets closer, we’ll have some scrimmage aspect. Whether it’ll be a two sideline game like we’ve done in the past, I’m not sure.”

Franklin added, “We have some time to get some guys back, but we may also lose some guys, so it doesn’t make sense to make a whole lot of plans right now when we’re still a week out.”
