Penn State football defeated the Purdue Boilermakers 35-31 in one of the wildest finishes of the weekend in college football. But what went into that game-winning drive? Film analyst Thomas Frank Carr has dissected the film and is here to discuss the Penn State offensive performance against Purdue. As this is the first film breakdown of the season, let's all start with the same understanding. Football is a complex game full of individual interactions between players that create thousands of talking points and information across a single game. We'll never be able to go through each play individually to point out everything, so these reviews are an approximation of each game's most significant common themes. There will be some things we don't get to review. I said on the BWI Live postgame show last night that Penn State football played two entirely different games on Thursday night, divided by halftime. In the first half, Penn State came out to prove the doubters wrong. They can run the football, and they're going to show you. The first quarter featured heavy, two-tight end sets, a sixth offensive lineman, and concussive rushing attempts. Yet for all of that, they still managed only 3.1 yards per carry by the end of the game. So, here we are again. The offensive line is under fire for not stepping up delivering as a run-blocking unit.
