In just two days, Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein and the offensive recruiting staff secured a rare feat for the organization. For only the fourth time under head coach James Franklin, the team secured two bookend tackle prospects in the same recruiting class. On Monday morning Wisconsin offensive tackle Garrett Sexton committed to the Nittany Lions. The following day Eagan Boyer out of North Carolina made the same decision.  This group represents something else, which we’ll get to later. But to understand why this is important, we’ll look at all the times Penn State recruited bookend players with pure tackle dimensions under Franklin.   For those unfamiliar with offensive tackle measurables, here’s a handy article that can help. But the quick and easy explanation is that you’re looking for a tall player with really long arms. Over 6-5 with an arm length of 33 inches or better is the “prototype” for tackles.
